    The National Service Scheme (NSS), a Voluntary and Value- based Student Youth Programme, is one of the major Youth Schemes being operated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt of lndia. It was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with the primary objective of Developing the Personality and Character of the Student Youth through Voluntary Community Service.As on 31-3-2016,NSS had about 36.58 Lakhs Volunteers enrolled in 39,695 NSS units spread over in 391 Universities/Plus Two councils which include 16,278 colleges/Technical institutions and 12,483 senior secondary schols.Since inception , over 4.6 Crore students have benefittted from NSS.

    The Aims and Objectives of the NSS are to render Service to the Community while studying in an educational instltution, to arouse the Social Conscience among Students, to provide them with an opportunity to work creatively and constructively with the community around the educational campus
